Former Detroit Mayor sentenced

Another story of corruption within government. This time the former Mayor of Detroit Kwame Kilpatrick is going to jail for four months. Kilpatrick pleaded guilty last month to two felony obstruction of justice charges stemming from his efforts to cover up an extramarital affair. He also pleaded no contest to charges of assaulting a police officer attempting to serve a subpoena on a Kilpatrick friend in that case. It seems to me that when people become placed in a position of power that time and time again they want to exploit it. It is a shame that he took advantage of his power, but justice is served at least for now.

And to think that back in 2002, Mr. Kwame was hailed as a progressive new leader. Talk about ironic.

He may have been seen as progressive by his supporters in the city but pretty much no one in the suburbs wanted him as mayor. He spoke at our high school the spring I graduated and he's always been so full of it. He just kept talking about turning what used to be the Belle Isle Zoo into some sort of wolf nature park. He might be locked up now but he says he's coming back, and one of the Detroit papers had a clip the other day that just said "CUT AND SAVE" with a list of everything he's done to hurt Detroit so when he does come back, he won't get elected again. The scary thing is that knowing Detroit, he could be back in the Mansion pretty fast.
